Cheap Parabolic Project

Unread post by Blue Gem » Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:29 pm

I'm sure this topic would have been extensively covered before, as it's a primary Detection tool for Research, but for those Newbies who haven't, here's a cheap (bout $10) design to build at home whilst waiting for the winter to move on.
A Parabolic is simply a microphone with big ears.
The basic design is simple...it's up to the individual how complex it can be, but the philosophy is, Keep It Simple Stupid. This is about as hard to build as a daisy chain from clovers!
The parabolic disk design can be altered to achieve directional results, by shaping the disk edges. The microphone choice is up to you..but I would stick to Dynamic Microphones & avoid Condensers, too sensitive for a large disk & pricey but can have a advantage by recording into 2 Diaphragms making it stereo. Here is all required links to build your own...Good Luck & please share your results.. (thumb up)
